SAMPLE DELIVERY GUIDELINES

Please mark all deliveries with 'signature is required', and keep note of all consignment tracking number and carrier name on all parcels sent .
When sending internationally please ensure all necessary documentation is provided, including commercial invoices for customs clearance.
Delivery delays can occur if documentation is missing, so please double check - this helps us ensure every test runs as soon as possible.
GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Try to avoid excessive creasing, damage, contamination or other imperfections, unless specifically replicating a ‘real world’ situation.
Flexible films: Roll loosely and place inside a cardboard tube secured at both ends. Alternatively, fold the sample to A4 size, and place flat rigid cardboard each side before inserting into a large envelope. If possible, include the entire width of film samples.
Sheets: Protect the sample with flat rigid cardboard each side and place in a large envelope.
Rigid form samples: Wrap each item in bubble wrap or soft paper, then place inside a cardboard carton making sure there is ample space to prevent damage between specimens in the carton. This especially applies when jars, pouches, tubes and bottles are filled, or machined parts have protrusions or uneven edges.

SIZE REQUIREMENTS
If you have ample samples available, then send ample quantities.
This is especially true of samples sent across international borders undergoing extra handling, or if working under time constraints.
Please note, we prefer that you send at least double the minimum amount to allow for setup and contingencies.
We may be able to work with less than the suggested minimum, but in some cases accuracy may be reduced and/or costs increased.
Most tests are performed on duplicate specimens. If you require more replicates then remember to adjust your quantities.
The minimum quantity we normally require you to supply for most tests of:
Flexible form samples (film or sheet) - 0.05 m² (say 200 x 250 mm) for each test requested and each sample variant.
If possible include the entire width of these samples.
Rigid form samples (jars, pouches, tubes, bottles, components etc) - two specimens of each sample variant for each test requested, AND enclose
two extra specimens in case of in-transit damage.
Oxygen or Water Vapour Transmission Rate Tests - of a film or sheet sample is a width of at least 90 mm.
Impact Resistance Tests - sample width of at least 150 mm and area of at least 0.5 m².
Puncture Resistance Tests - sample width of at least 140 mm.
Melt Flow Index Tests - minimum sample weight of 3 grams for most samples, or 5 grams if the melt index is expected to be over 10g/10 minutes.
Further recommendations for specialised tests include:
Oxygen or Water Vapour Transmission Rate Tests - can be carried out on single unit samples with a maximum size of up to three litres in volume, where those samples are to be tested as a Whole Package.
Coefficient Of Friction (Slip) Tests - please try to minimise handling of samples, as finger marks etc. may affect results.
Structural and Material Analysis of moulded objects - we do not necessarily require a complete unit for larger sized items.
However, we will advise you how to send an appropriately sized representative section to meet your specific testing requirements.
Pack integrity, Seal and Leak Tests - It is best to send complete samples. Otherwise when you are removing the contents of packs, open some via the top (or left) seal and some via the bottom (or right) seal, for the whole pack to be evaluated. Check if this is necessary before sending packs through international borders.
